LAIGUEGLIA: In the footsteps of Thor Heyerdal. Trekking between Laigueglia and Colla Micheri.
Have you ever heard of Kon Tiki? During this excursion we will find out what the links are between Liguria and the Norwegian anthropologist Thor Heyerdal, which in 1947 crossed the’Pacific Ocean from South America to the islands of the Polynesia With a raft. What was he trying to prove?
We will find out on an easy hike starting from the sea of Laigueglia. Tracing in places the path of the ancient via Julia Augusta, a mule track leads us to Micheri Glue, a small but delightful hamlet that anthropologist Thor Heyerdal fell in love with to the point that he moved and lived here with his family until the last years of his life.
After a short visit to this village that retains its medieval charm with tall, narrow stone houses leaning against each other and façades in muted colors, you can descend to the Merula Valley to reach the ruins of the defensive walls and towers of the ancient 13th-century complex of the Andora Castle. The neighbor church of saints James and Philip is considered a remarkable example of late Romanesque architecture in western Liguria.
From Micheri Glue Continuing instead on the ridge trail toward Poggio Brea we will enjoy an all-around panorama that will embrace the Ligurian Alps to the north to the Ligurian Sea to the south.
