FINALborgo: Finalborgo trek, Perti, Montesordo, Pollera Cave.

A trek of discovery and complete immersion in an area where the real protagonist is the Finale Stone.  Stone that we find not only in natural environments, where cliffs, caves and caverns give rise to a very striking landscape, but also in the’rural architecture, in the dry stone culture and the many churches, palaces and castles.

We are in an area that was already inhabited by man more than 350,000 years ago, who had made his home here in the many caves and arms, some of which we will visit on our tour.

Evidence of this millennia-long presence of man can be found everywhere in the Finale area, and in our trek we want to invite you to read the many testimonies of this area, which like a book tells us about the vicissitudes of man and his relationship with the environment that surrounds him.

We therefore propose a loop tour starting from Finalborgo, in the Middle Ages stronghold of the Marchesi del Carretto, one of Italy's most important feudal families, but in the 17th century also an important Spanish outpost. We will go up to Perti walking along part of the Churches Trail, we will reach the church of St. Antoninus, built at the highest point of a steep rise, surrounded by the remains of the’ancient byzantine castle, built in the 6th century AD to defend Liguria from the’Lombard invasion. From here we plunge into the dense Mediterranean bush to reach the scenic Pollera Cave, where archaeological excavations uncovered that the cave had been inhabited from the Bronze Age to the Neolithic period. From here we cross Montesordo with its beautiful climbing walls and complete the loop to return to Finalborgo passing from the Beretta road, also known as the Queen's Road, because it was built in 1666 by the Spanish for the passage of the Infanta of Spain who was to be married to Archduke Leopold I of Austria.

We pass by the ruins of Gavone Castle, from Castel San Giovanni and we return to Finalborgo.
