A fascinating hamlet of Liguria, nestled between the Ligurian Alps, just 17 km from the sea. This little gem, rising at the foot of peaks exceeding 2,000 meters, is a place where unspoiled nature blends with a rich historical and cultural heritage. During this guided tour, you will discover how the landscape, agricultural tradition, and local gastronomy are intertwined, creating a unique experience for every visitor.
As you stroll through the narrow streets of Pigna, you will be surprised by its strategic location: here we are just a stone's throw from the border with France and Piedmont, immersed in the heart of an extraordinary natural environment. Pigna is a village whose traditions are rooted in agriculture and pastoralism. We will discover together how these traditions still live on in the local cuisine. The Brigasca sheep, typical of the area, is the protagonist of one of the most appreciated products: the Toma di Pecora Brigasca, a cheese that has obtained the recognition of Slow Food Presidium. Other typical products, such as the Pigna white bean, are also Slow Food Presidia and fit perfectly into the rich gastronomic tradition of this area.
Our tour guide will lead you into the historic center of Pigna, an authentic labyrinth of narrow stone alleys and streets, where every corner hides a historical detail. The stone houses, topped by elegant arches, and the stairs leading to the top of the village will allow us to go back in time, immersing us in the medieval atmosphere that still pervades these streets.
An absolute must-see vantage point is the Loggia of the Old Square, a balcony overlooking the verdant valley. This 15th-century balcony offers a spectacular view of the surrounding landscape and is one of the most photographed places in Pigna.
In our walk through the village, we will visit the St. Michael's Church, one of the most striking churches in Pigna. This building houses a Renaissance polyptych by Giovanni Canavesio, one of the most important works of art in Liguria, which tells of the beauty and spirituality of the past.
In addition, we will get to discover the Parish church of Pigna, famous for its magnificent rose window and extraordinarily beautiful architecture. The church is one of the most significant examples of Ligurian religious art. Walking through the alleys, we will enter the maze of narrow streets, arranged on different heights and connected by narrow covered passages and stairways that create a charming atmosphere, like a journey back in time.
