La guided tour by Triora is a unique experience, a journey into the heart of a village that, in addition to being a place of great natural beauty, holds a unique history of legends, superstitions and traditions that live on in the stories of its inhabitants. With our tour guide, you can discover every corner of the country, immersing yourself in its mystery.
To reach Triora, we have to go all the way up the Argentina valley passing through villages of absolute charm such as Badalucco And the country of twenty-three mills, Molini di Triora.
Upon reaching Triora, the village seems suspended in time. Isolated on a rocky outcrop, Triora was once fiefdom of the Counts of Ventimiglia, and later became an impregnable stronghold of the Republic of Genoa, defending the Ligurian borders. What more evocative setting than its winding and dark carruggi could host the dramatic reality of the witch hunt? The trail of terror that hit the village in 1587 was probably triggered by a famine, amplified by collective hallucination phenomena caused by contaminated food. In the surroundings of Triora is an eerie cottage, known as the booth, a place where, according to legend, witches gathered to celebrate their Sabbaths and perform evil spells.
During the visit, our guide will take you to the places where witches, according to tradition, were accused of practicing magic and spells. It will take you on a discovery of the booth, this place charged with a mysterious and eerie charm and you can also visit the Regional Ethnographic Museum of Triora, where in its basement, once used as a prison, court documents are preserved and scenes reconstructed that evoke the Inquisition and the cruel persecutions that marked the fate of women accused of witchcraft.
Continuing the visit, one can admire the medieval walls of Triora, which surround the historic center and bear witness to centuries of history. The antique doors and the towers are still visible, and as you stroll through the village, you will be captivated by the beauty of its stone houses and its alleys, which tell the story of Triora's daily life in past centuries. The cobbled squares, i stone portals and the small stores selling typical local products, such as the bread and cheese, make Triora an authentic and atmospheric place. You can also see the ruins of Triora Castle, which date back to the 13th century. Although the structure is not fully preserved, the castle ruins offer a fascinating insight into how the village was protected in the past. From here, you can also enjoy a unique panoramic view of the valley and surrounding mountains, a great place to take memorable photographs.
