🌈 But how colorful is the seabed of the Bergeggi Island Marine Protected Area!

🧐 Sometimes it's really hard to imagine the wonder of these places, but lo and behold, as soon as you see such colorful creatures, the imagination gives way to reality!

🐠 And here is one of the most varied and brightly colored species in the Ligurian Sea: the peacock damsel (Thalassoma pavo)

🌍 Typical species in the Mediterranean Sea, living in shallow waters.

🤿 The colors that characterize this fish make it easy to identify it during snorkeling trips, but that's not all! In fact, Thalassoma pavo is also characterized by so-called sexual dimorphism!

👀 What does it mean? Simple. The male and female of this species can be recognized by the very different colorations between them

✨ Notably, the female is characterized by several blue stripes along the body, while the male has only one; in the photo you can see a male specimen, while in the video a female Thalassoma pavo

🤔 Fun fact: Did you know that peacock damsel specimens are born female and die male? And again, coloration helps us understand the life stage of the various individuals!
