Nice - Urban trekking : walking itinerary among history, art and breathtaking views

An experience of urban trekking in Nice represents an ideal way to discover the city by walking, unhurriedly, immersing yourself in its Mediterranean beauty among historic monuments, fragrant markets and spectacular views of the Bay of Angels. Below is a daily itinerary structured for those who wish to explore Nice on foot, following a cultural and scenic route, suitable for individual travelers, small groups or sustainable tourism enthusiasts.

The day begins in the central Place Masséna, elegant 19th-century square surrounded by red buildings and arcades. From here, the entrance to the Old Town Nice allows you to wander through a maze of picturesque alleys, full of craft stores, spice scents and Baroque architecture.

Points of interest:

  • Cathedral of Santa Reparata, an example of Provençal baroque

  • Rossetti Place, beating heart of the historic district

  • The famous Cours Saleya Flower Market, with local produce, lavender, spices and fresh fruit

Note: Every Monday, the market hosts an antiques market.

From the waterfront, a short climb leads to the Castle Hill, a scenic spot par excellence. Although the medieval castle is now only a memory, the hill offers unparalleled views of the old city, the harbor and the entire Bay of Angels.

Main attractions:

  • The lookout with a view of the coast

  • Le castle ruins

  • A suggestive artificial waterfall surrounded by greenery

From the Castle Hill we descend to the world-famous Promenade des Anglais, the waterfront promenade that is one of the symbols of Nice. Along it are beaches, bathing establishments, gardens and palm trees overlooking the Mediterranean.

Places of interest:

  • The city beaches

  • The "bleu de Nice" seats for relaxing moments overlooking the sea

  • Ideal glimpses for photographs and contemplative moments

Numerous restaurants and bistros along the Promenade offer local menus and sea views. We recommend a stop to savor typical Niçoise dishes, such as:

  • Salad niçoise

  • Pissaladière

  • Socca, aka Ligurian porridge

After lunch, the route continues to the Hotel Negresco, a Belle Époque building built in 1913 that has become a National Historic Monument. Even just on the outside, the pink dome and ornate facade deserve attention. The lobby, houses a prestigious collection of contemporary and ancient art.

From Negresco you can reach the extraordinary Russian Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas, one of the largest outside Russia. Built in 1912 for the resident Russian community, it features green and gold domes, frescoes and striking architectural details.

We return to the starting point by passing through the neighborhood of the train station and Avenue Medecin.
