The itinerary starts from the IAT in Bergeggi, along Via Aurelia. Passing through a section of the characteristic village, we reach the entrance to the path that leads to the Natte Cork Grove (from the local dialect "cork"), the largest forest of cork oaks (Quercus suber) in the province of Savona.
This is an ecosystem of great naturalistic value, where cork oaks alternate with downy oaks, holm oaks and maritime pines. The undergrowth is rich in Mediterranean scrub, with myrtle, cistus and lentisk, creating an evocative and fragrant environment in every season.
Along the way, the forest suddenly opens up giving spectacular views of the Island of Bergeggi and the entire Marine Protected Area, with the Tuscan coast and the Cape Noli Promontory providing a scenic backdrop. This viewpoint is also known as an ideal place for paragliding takeoffs.
Skirting Mount Sant'Elena, one reaches the Gorge of the same name, the scene of important historical events that marked the community of Bergeggi and the surrounding area. The path, initially immersed in denser forest, then leads back toward the pretty village, rich in evidence of daily life in the past, such as the numerous historic wash houses, still well preserved.
Characteristic red brick stairs finally accompany the return to the starting point, closing a route that combines nature, history, and fascinating coastal views.
