Trekking and Theater in Cisano sul Neva
The Mad Grass Theater tells Bastian Contrary
An original experience combining trekking, nature, local history and theater, discovering the area of Cisano sul Neva and its special geological and landscape riches.
Accompanied by an environmental hiking guide and botanists from Montina Nurseries, we will walk along ancient paths immersed in the rural Ligurian landscape, among terraced olive groves, dry stone walls and typical inland crops. The path crosses an old olive grove shaped over the centuries by human labor and characterized by the presence of the local “Muregna” stone, traditionally used for the construction of the strips and walls that support the terracing.
During the hike we will visit the historic site of ancient stone millstone quarrying, an important testimony to the craft activities related to stone working in the Ligurian hinterland. The trail will also offer an opportunity to pause at a World War II trench, a silent memory of events that deeply marked these valleys.
We will shortly reach the scenic area of the agritourism farm “Il Poggio del Nonno Piero.” From the terrace of the Poggio there is a spectacular 360-degree view encompassing the sea, the Albenga plain, the inland hills and the Ligurian mountains.
The experience will then continue to the village of Cisano sul Neva, where we will attend a play dedicated to Bastian Contrario, a famous historical and legendary figure of the Ligurian hinterland, performed by the Teatro dell'Erba Matta. An engaging tale that brings to life atmospheres, characters and events of the past along the ancient Vie del Sale (Salt Roads).
