Its name carries with it the reason for its existence. Pieve refers to the Parish church of Santa Maria della Ripa and Teco derives from the Latin Tectum: house. Pieve di Teco thus originated as a place of worship and a place of habitation.
It was founded in the mid-13th century as a new village on the initiative of the marquises of Clavesana, local lords of Piedmontese origin. This place was chosen because here was the crossroads of the ancient salt routes which led from the valley floor and the coast, directly to Piedmont. Due to its important commercial function, Pieve di Teco became the most important village in the Arroscia Valley and economic and political wealth of the country can be seen in the many civil and religious monuments present, which are still able to inspire awe and wonder in the attentive visitor.
We invite you to discover with us this village between sea and mountains which has a linear urban layout with monumental Gothic arcades and precious stone portals. Along the arcade Umberto I Street the numerous workshops of medieval origin are reminiscent of the village's commercial function, especially with regard to the local manufacture of the footwear.
Prominent among the medieval streets is the neoclassical collegiate church of St. John the Baptist made to the design of Gaetano Cantoni Between 1782 and 1806.
The pride of the village is the Salvini Theater, recently restored, which ranks as the smallest in the world-a real gem.
A visit to Pieve di Teco cannot be separated from a visit to local producers to taste the area's specialties: from extra virgin taggiasca olive oil to the best Ligurian wines produced in the area.
