It is the right excursion for those who want to get to know the other side of Liguria, the more authentic one, linked to the stone villages, but also for history buffs who want to understand the various links between a small Valley and great history.

If you have therefore decided to discover the Neva Valley with a tour guide here then your desire for knowledge will be fulfilled. You will discover what is the origin of the del Carretto family, you will find out why Ottavio Costa was Caravaggio's protector, you will understand the reasons why Albenga had to build a fortified city to defend itself, but most importantly you will learn why the young Ilaria del Carretto went in marriage to Giunigi of Lucca. A most interesting visit that will tell you that great history once passed between these now small villages.

Let's find out Zuccarello, a small medieval village dominated by the castle of the Marquises del Carretto, founded in 1248. The settlement is characterized by old houses and a single large columned arcaded street dating from different eras . It retains the appearance of a fortified village in the remains of the walls, towers and gateways. One of the architectural jewels of the village is the beautiful medieval humpback bridge, which crosses the Neva River, among the most beautiful in western Liguria. In front of Porta Soprana welcomes visitors the statue of Ilaria del Carretto who was born here before going to marry Paolo Guinigi, lord of Lucca. We will discover together who this beautiful maiden was, immortalized by Jacopo della Quercia in the magnificent funeral monument preserved in the Cathedral of Lucca.

This small town, nestled in a wonderful terraced landscape planted with vines and olive trees with its medieval castle, tells us a story of wars and control of these important communication routes.
