The guided trail will introduce us to the first part of the Pilgrim's Path, which connects Noli to Varigotti. Leaving Noli, we soon find ourselves immersed in coastal vegetation, with panoramic views of the bay, the island of Bergeggi and the Ligurian Riviera. These are the paths that Dante mentioned in the Fourth Canto of Purgatory ("Vassi in Sanleo e descendesi in Noli..."). From the so-called "scoglio di Dante," a rock we will encounter along the way, the Supreme Poet is said to have observed the structure of the oldest Noli, arranged on semicircular terraces on the slopes of Mount Ursino, drawing inspiration for the structure of Purgatory.
Along the way we will encounter historical evidence: the ruins of the church of Santa Margherita, the hermitage of Captain d'Albertis and the remains of the lazaretto; here during epidemics, such as the plague of the 14th century, nolese sailors had to spend quarantine returning from voyages to distant countries. A detour leads to the Grotta dei Falsari, where in ancient times smugglers hid their goods. It is a rocky cavern overlooking the sea with a spectacular semicircular opening.
