La Belle Époque: the Marquise Millelire tells. Theatricalized trekking in Bergeggi
25 July 2025 @ 20:30 - 22:30
Free
“Marquise Millelire Tells” is a unique theatrical trek in Bergeggi, free and open to all with reservations required, signed Gulf Guides and Maria Rosa Marsilio, sponsored by the Pro Loco of Bergeggi and funded by The Gulf of the Island.. An unmissable opportunity to discover Liguria in the late 19th and early 20th centuries through the re-enactment of Marchesa Millelire, a historical protagonist of Bergeggi.
Why participate?
The Belle Époque was a time of great change and profound contrasts: on the one hand, progress was coming with electric lighting, the new train connecting once isolated villages, and modernity promising a better future. On the other hand, many Ligurians lived in poverty and many were forced to emigrate in search of fortune. In Bergeggi, these events were even more dramatic: recall the 1921 St. Helena Fort explosion, which marked local history, and even earlier the tragic sinking of the ocean liner Transilvania off the shores of Bergeggi in 1917, an episode that left a deep mark on the community.
In this theatricalized trek, accompanied by the Gulf Guides and historian and interpreter Maria Rosa Marsilio, the figure of Marquise Millelire is re-enacted to tell, with an imagined point of view, the events and emotions of those extraordinary years. It will be like going back in time to experience firsthand the stories of the inhabitants, their dreams, their fears, and the transformations of a crucial era.
