Mario Galvagni in Carbuta: home, landscape, thought.
Calice Ligure and its hamlet, Carbuta, are places of fundamental importance for the evolution of the architectural poetics of Mario Galvagni, who, born in 1928 and trained in Milan as a painter and architect, created most of his first works right in Liguria.
It was in Torre del Mare that Galvagni met Emilio Scanavino, and it was following his advice that he decided to settle in Carbuta with his own house-studio beginning in 1967.
In those years Calice Ligure was a cultural landmark of great importance, a center of artistic experimentation that saw the establishment of a veritable colony of artistic personalities gathered around the figure of Scanavino.
Along with the realization of his own home located in a former granary, Galvagni devoted his energies to the design of the never realized “international arts operations center” in the form of a vast complex of prefabricated shells designed to accommodate the activities of the growing arts community.
These are the themes around which the walk will take place, which will begin among the streets of the center, then moving independently to Carbuta locality (there are parking lots a short distance away). The garden of the house-studio will then be visited, taking the opportunity for a small toast.
The visit will take place in two voices with Elena Vergnano and arch. Francesca Olivieri, who will explore the figure and work of Mario Galvagni by showing images and archival materials.
