BERGEGGI from top to bottom

Beautiful and scenic Bergeggi loop with an incredible variety of landscapes. It goes from cork forest, to forest, to Mediterranean scrub. Magnificent views of the sea, dominated by the islet of Bergeggi. Interesting historical evidence with the remains of the pre-Roman Ligurian Castellaro on Mount St. Helena and the ancient Roman road that connected the Po Valley with Gaul.

Start at the IAT in Bergeggi and take the stairs leading to the Town Hall. After a short time you take the path of the Cork Grove of Natte, the largest cork oak forest in western Liguria. It continues to the Fort St. Helena, erupted in 1921, today a launching site for paragliders. Here the panorama is superb and when the sky is clear the view sweeps from Tuscany to the Cape Noli Promontory. Below us the’marine area of the island of Bergeggi and the Cetacean Sanctuary. We continue to Monte Sant'Elena and reach the summit where we can see the remains of the perimeter walls of an ancient pre-Roman Ligurian castle. We return, through a beautiful path in the mixed forest, to the village of Bergeggi, where through the botanical path and then the Eliceto path we reach the coast. We return to our starting point by walking on the high cliffs that enclose the Bay of the Sirens and the Bay of the English. We admire the entrance to the sea cave, accessible by swimming or kayaking. Continuing along the eastern promenade looking to our left we catch sight of the town of Bergeggi open amphitheatrically to the sea.
