Palmaria Island Trekking

A unique island, which in just 2 square kilometers encompasses a multiplicity of different environments. Together with the islands of Tino and Tinetto it makes up the La Spezia archipelago. The three islands rise south of Portovenere, hiding it and protecting it from the view of those arriving from the sea. Separating Palmaria, the largest, from Portovenere is only a very narrow arm of the sea, guarded by the ’ancient church of San Pietro.

The island, which from a distance appears to be one with the tower houses of the stunning seaside village, holds an important natural heritage protected by the Porto Venere Regional Nature Park. The eastern side, gentle and with lush vegetation, contrasts with the western side that features steep, overhanging limestone cliffs and numerous caves that open up to the open sea. A loop trail will allow us to discover it in its entirety.

Difficulty: E hiking.
Level: Medium. Safe pace required.
Suitable for anyone who is used to walking trails with a fair amount of elevation gain and is in normal mental and physical condition

Bottom: mixed. Mountain hiking trail. Stairs along the trail.
Shoes: hiking shoes compulsory, poles recommended.
Clothing: layered technical, windproof, rainproof, bandana.
In your backpack: small first aid kit, usual medicines, sunscreen, water at least 1 liter, snacks and possible packed lunch, and swimsuit.
The Guide may decide not to allow those who do not have the proper shoes or those who are deemed unfit to participate in the trek.

fee includes: bus transfers to and from departure locations (Imperia, Albenga, Pietra Ligure, Savona), ferry from Portovenere to Palmaria Island round trip, insurance, licensed environmental hiking guide, agency escort.
