Renowned winter resort, famous for its shallow, sandy beach, Alassio was for centuries a small fishing village squeezed between the sea and the hills.
Alassio is not only sea, Alassio is history, traditions and culture and what better way to discover it than by taking a guided tour with us.
At the end of the 19th century, thanks to its landscape and climate, Alassio became a favorite destination for international tourism, especially English tourism; evidence of this remains such as the Anglican Church, the Richard West Memorial Gallery, l’Hambury Tennis Club and beautiful villas in scenic locations, such as the Villa della Pergola.
Near the gut of Alassio, the bustling street that runs parallel to the beach among 16th- and 17th-century buildings, is Palazzo Morteo. Here is housed a Art Gallery comprising twenty-two works that Charles Levi, the author of Christ Stopped at Eboli, made during his stays on the Riviera.
The famous Wall of Alassio was born in 1953 from an idea of Mario Berrino, manager of the historic Café Roma; he had the intuition to decorate a wall bordering the public garden in front of his café with tiles signed by famous people.
