A little piece of paradise, enclosed between Cape Vado and the promontory of Torre d'Ere, overlooking the sea and the islet.
Bergeggi is one of the four locations in The Gulf of the Island. The deep seabed, posidonia meadows and rich marine flora give a crystal clear sea populated by typical Mediterranean fish. We are in the’Bergeggi Island Marine Protected Area and in the Cetacean Sanctuary and it is not uncommon, especially outside the summer season, to notice some dolphins.
Bergeggi has always been known for its sea and island, but Bergeggi is much more. It has a beautiful hinterland with an important environment to discover. We like to introduce this small village by referring to the title of Rosella Ricci's book: Bergeggi, an island in front of the Island, because that is how the ’settlement of Bergeggi has always been: a handful of houses clinging on terraces overlooking the sea, beaten by the winds in a steep terrain difficult to cultivate, but above all excluded from land and sea trade. Here in Bergeggi there was no port, and the coastal road came only in Napoleonic times. In this land so difficult to inhabit, everyone learned to make their own way, as on an island.
So we invite you to discover it with our many paths because telling the story of Bergeggi means telling the small story, made up of places and people, memories and collective memory.
